Clasical Indian Concert - In Memory of My Dad

Dear friends,
With Guruji's sweet blessings, a concert has been organized on 15th October at 7.30pm in honor of my Dad, to commemorate his achievements and to celebrate the joy that he spread while he was with us.
Matra have kindly organized this in dedication of my dad. Mr. Palwinder Bhamra, a good friend of my dad's will be hosting and will pay tribute to him on the day.
I know there is a cost involved, but please do make the effort to attend. It will mean so much to me if you do. This is a minimum fee that goes towards hiring the hall, organising the artists etc. None of it is profit.
You can book your tickets through myself, Himmat, Gurcharan, Ravinderpal(Rumta) or Jatinder. But please please do so as soon as possible. Just drop us an email, a comment on this blog or give us a buzz and we will either post or hand over the tickets.
Hope to see you at the concert. Please do make the effort.
Love and regards,
Sembi and Durhailay family

In memory of his greatness...
Not sure whether I should wait to finalise things before I post anything.
I guess I just feel like I want to post my progress as I go along – which should keep me on my toes and hopefully get some good ideas/input from anyone reading the Sati blog.
July 18th 2006 will mark one year since the day Dad left for greener pastures elsewhere.
To commemorate this, with Guruji’s grace, we have come up with a few interesting (I hope) ideas.
1. Classical Concert
In his memory, we are hoping to organise a charity event to raise money for the cause that Dad so strongly believed in – free Ayurvedic treatment for those who cannot afford it.
Dad studied/volunteered at an Ayurvedic hospital in Mumbai – this will be the most appropriate charity as Dad spoke highly of the work that they are doing there.
2. Skydive
Dad was a bit of a dare devil – so I guess it would be most appropriate if I do a skydive in his memory! This will be an opportunity for individuals who are unable to attend the Classical Concert, but would like to donate money to this worthwhile cause.
Please do leave any comments/ideas – your input will be truly appreciated.
More details to follow...

Well done Davinder!!!

You actually made it! :o)
Hmmmnnn....London Marathon, why have I not done it yet?
Its such a Preet thing to do?!
hmmmm.....
Nagar Kirtan 2006
So, why do I take part in the Nagar Kirtan? To listen to the large number of dhol players!? Because I have nothing better to do on a Sunday? Maybe those alluring chollaybhaturaysamosayjalebis?! It might be a chance to meet up with my friends that I hardly get to see? I guess it’s good to get out and go for a nice long walk?
Gurcharan and I found ourselves asking this question this year – why is it that we go to the Nagar Kirtan? I must admit, I have never really questioned it before now – I have just gone.
A few people I know have actually made it a point NOT to take part in the Nagar Kirtan. I find myself on the verge of doing the same.
It is a shame – there was a time I really looked forward to the Nagar Kirtan – more importantly, I actually gained something from it. Now, im not too sure.
Although, I do believe it is what you make of it, as with anything.
If I focus on the ‘dodgy’ bits, then I have already lost the plot. I guess with everything comes the ‘dark side!’. The trick is to simply ignore the dodgy-ness and enjoy what the Nagar Kirtan has to offer.
A few of the usual amusing things remain: the aunties with the empty Tesco bags that are spilling over by the end of the Nagar Kirtan, the trendy group of clean shaven boys with funky hairstyles and the smooth look shouting slogans to the likes of “raj karega…Khalsa” “Deg Tegh Fateh” and the rest. Oh and a new one this year at the Southall Nagar Kirtan, bhangra dancers – the uncle ji’s trying their best to copy the latest moves. Oh, what fun! For a minute I thought it was a mela! ;o)
All in all, it was nice. Got to do darshan of the Punj right at the beginning – which I have never got to do before. Poor lil mummy was half jogging half sprinting to keep up with Gurch and I. Must say it used to be much more fun with dad – my partner in crime!
He had a cheeky mind – just like me! Not fun at all by myself! :o(

Himmat's Sister
That’s me.
That is my official title.
If you didn’t know who I am, im sure you do now.
You see, Himmat is The Yellow Pages. He knows EVERYONE! Whereas the up and coming Jatinder, Himmat’s apprentice, is the Thompson Directory. Hence, landing me the new title of Jat’s Bhabi!

There must have been a million people (slight exaggeration) at the Nagar Kirtan yesterday; Himmat hardly took 2 steps without bumping into someone he knew. And of course, I was introduced as……Himmat’s Sister!
I remember the days when lil Himmi was a painfully shy little boy. I was always the one doing all the talking, meeting new people, actually being addressed by the name on my birth certificate.
Now, I am simply known as…Himmat’s Sister.
